Fan Notch has no accounts and no advertising, and the app sends no usage data. This page says what the website measures, what little leaves your Mac, where it goes, and why.
Who we are
Fan Notch is made by Deveshwar Singh Chhinna, an individual based in India (“we”, “us”). Write to [email protected] about anything on this page.
The website
- fanotch.me uses Microsoft Clarity to see how the site is used: pages viewed, clicks, scrolling, and replays of visits with anything you type masked. Clarity is provided by Microsoft, which processes this data under the Microsoft Privacy Statement. It runs without cookies. Any content blocker stops it without affecting the site.
- Nothing else on the site loads from other companies, and there are no ads.
- Our host, Cloudflare (and Netlify, if we move back), receives the technical details every web request carries, such as your IP address, browser and the page asked for. They use them to deliver the site and protect it from abuse, and keep them for a short time under their own privacy policies. We don't combine them with anything or use them to identify you.
The app
Fan Notch asks for no permissions: no screen recording, no accessibility, no location, no contacts. It has no account and sends no usage statistics or crash reports.
Kept on your Mac only:
- Your settings, follows and watchlist, in the app's preferences.
- The last scores and prices, cached on disk so the ticker is never blank.
- Your Upstox token, OpenF1 account and licence key, in the macOS Keychain.
What the app connects to:
- fanotch.me, for the scores feed (cricket, tennis and football). If that fails, it reads the same feed from Apify, which hosts it. These requests carry your IP address like any web request, and nothing about you.
- OpenF1 and Jolpica, for Formula 1, directly from your Mac. If you add an OpenF1 account, your OpenF1 sign-in goes only to OpenF1.
- Upstox, for Indian market prices, only if you add your own token. The token goes from your Mac straight to Upstox; we never receive it, and the read-only token can't place orders.
- Dodo Payments, only if you enter a Pro licence key: the app sends the key and a random tag for this Mac (for example “Fan Notch 3F9A1C2E”) to activate and check it. No name, serial number or other detail of your Mac is sent.
Notifications, if you turn them on, are made on your Mac and go nowhere else.
Buying Pro
Pro is sold by Dodo Payments, our merchant of record. Dodo collects your name, email address, billing address and payment details, takes the payment, handles tax and sends your licence key, under Dodo's privacy policy. We never see your card details. Dodo shares with us what we need to support your purchase: your name, email address, country, the plan, and the licence key and its activations.
We use these only to provide Pro, answer you, and meet tax and accounting duties. We don't send marketing emails unless you ask for them, and we never sell or rent your details.
How long we keep it
Purchase records are kept as long as tax and accounting law requires (usually up to 8 years in India). Emails you send us are kept while we're helping you and for a reasonable time afterwards. Anything on your Mac stays there until you delete the app and its data.
Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete what we're not required to keep, by writing to the contact address above. We reply within 30 days. This applies wherever you live, including under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 and, for people in the EU or UK, the GDPR. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Fan Notch isn't directed at children under 13 (16 in some countries), and we don't knowingly collect their details.
Changes
If this page changes in a way that matters, we'll say so on the website and update the date above.
